For those of you considering home schooling your child, there are some requirements of home schooling that you need to be aware of. Home schooling is recognized all over the United States. You will need to know the different requirement each state has for home schooling. Some states have very strict laws and some have flexible rules. Either way, it is up to you to find out the requirement in your state before you proceed.
How To Start Home Schooling In Different States
In certain states, you have to get a formal lesson plan made and approved by a local school board. This way your child gets the same education as the students in the public school while studying at home. Other states may not have such stringent requirements of home schooling. You may need to just submit a notice stating your intention to home school your child to an official of the local school. After that you can choose your curriculum and methods of teaching your child.
Tests And Assessments
Different states have different requirements of home schooling to assess your child. There are some states where the child will have to give the same evaluation tests that students in public schools have to give. There are certain certified teachers who will evaluate the home schooled child. Other states do not require such an assessment and in fact leave it up to the parents to assess the child because they are the best judges of their child’s progress.
Graduation Process
The graduation requirements of home schooling also differ from state to state. Home schooling is treated like private schools in some states and the same graduation procedures are followed. Some home schooled students graduate on the basis of the evaluation done by the local school and do not follow any formal process. Home schooled students in some states do not even receive any formal diploma upon graduation but are still accepted into universities and colleges.
You can adopt different ways of teaching your child according to the requirements of home schooling in your state. In California, for example, you may use any of three options. You could enroll your child in a private school, hire a credited tutor at home or join a public independent home schooling program. You could even start a private school for your child where you would have to submit a progress report to the Department of Education annually.
You will be ready to start home schooling your child once you have the details of all the requirements of home schooling in your state.
I’m so nervous about homeschooling. My oldest has no interest in reading- I keep reminding my self that is she is just about to turn 4 and I shouldn’t be pushing her. She does love to write though so I’ve been working on that.
I have been interested i the idea of homeschooling for a long time and always try and read about it when I see an article about it.
I don’t have any kids of my own but do see it as something I would consider if I did.
The main thing that worries me about the idea is the loss of interaction with other kids. Does anyone run a system where by the local home school kids will actually be joint taught by one or two of the parents on rotation throughout the week?
This could free parents up to have some free time and give the children the variety and social networking that they benefit from.
Thanks,
Forest.
Excellent advice. I know a lot of people that homeschool all over the country, and I am really considering it for my son in North Carolina next year when he is supposed to start Kindergarten, which is not mandatory here.
Is there anything in between school and home teaching, I feel like home teaching is such a massive change to school but school isnt always right for every kid I was just wondering if there was something that was a happy medium rather than from one extreme to the next?
Home schooling is really interesting thing, but i think, that common schooling is better.
Home schooling is a good way to educate child at home But home schooling is not as efficient as the original school.
I don’t know but i don’t think home school is the best solution. A kid won’t be so communicative as the other who will be in normal school.
Thanks for this post. I have been considering homeschooling my guys, but was wondering how to legally go about it. There are just so many pros and cons to both traditional schools and homeschooling that I’m having trouble making my mind up!
You rally have to commit fully to the idea of home schooling. It’s not for everyone but for those willing and able to go that route, it can be extremely rewarding. It’s a learning experience for tacher and student alike.
